This is the famous Blue Mosque of Istanbul. The blue is for the colors on the inside, not the outside. Unfortunately, it was overcast that day. I finally learned what purpose the minarets serve (I should have been able to figure this out ;-) - they amplify the sound of the muezzin (singer) who calls Muslims to prayer five times a day.
