Before - Like
our cool 1940s kitchen? It's about 15 feet across at its widest point, and 18 feet from
the window there all the way to the back wall. We got really lucky - six
months after we bought the house in September 1992, my mom and Tom, her husband at the
time, decided to renovate the kitchen of their rental house in Florida, and gave us the
old cabinets. So we got to renovate our kitchen much sooner than we expected.
During #1 - I swear, as much
as Dan and Tom blame me for this, it was not my idea ;-) Tom said, in order to
center the window over the sink, we would need to move the window to the left about 18
inches. Move the window? Who moves a window?!? But they did. It was really weird looking
out a window with no glass in it into my back yard.
During #2 - This
side of the kitchen was completely gutted and rewired. Then Dan closed up that useless
door between the kitchen and the sunroom, so we could move the refrigerator closer to the
sink and stove. There's another door around the corner to the right, where the laundry
area is.
After - And
it looks very much like this today. Can you believe the difference? A new window, new
wiring, new drywall and insulation, new light fixture over the window, new dishwasher and
stove, an island. All we need to do now is the other half that you can't see :-)
